As someone who has been an advocate for and a promoter of health-friendly food for many years, including a past certified organic commercial grower, it gives me great pleasure to write this letter of support for your event. Yes, an event that raises the profile and increases the awareness of the many benefits associated with leading a balanced healthy lifestyle certainly gets my vote!
In all my ‘Mr. Organic’s Educational Programs’, from Kindergarten through to University, there is a common theme running through them. And although much less obvious to the very young student, that theme is Food Security. Or, the lack of it!. For instance, here on beautiful Vancouver Island we have become reliant on imported food. To such an extent that should the transportation bringing the imported food to our shores come to a grinding halt we only have 72 hoursof food! Not days, weeks, months or years but hours! How crazy and scary is that?
Within your many healthy ‘messages’ you, the Sidney Health Fair, are actually promoting the answer to our Food Security problem. Your message/answer in so many words is that we, the consumer, need to support the LOCAL farmers and growers who are growing health-friendly food, and do so by actually buying their produce and products. A great message/answer!
